LEGS, TOO, - ARTSCAPE SANDBOX in cooperation with FADO

I'll be presenting Impossible Conversations at LEGS, TOO, an all-day performance art relay. The form of the event is dictated by a chosen duration (in this case 8 hours), which is then divided equally by the number of performance artists from the local community who have chosen to participate.

Participating artists are invited by other participating artists, snowballing a self-organizing event that is disinterested in traditional curation. Founded on a belief in community trust, performative dialogue and artistic self-determinacy, the resulting collective event lets participating artists be responsible not only for the continuous stream of idea- and image-making, but also for the realization of event itself. There is no staff, no coordinator, no stage manager, only artists working together.

October 3, 11am- 7pm at Artscape Sandbox.

The Banff Centre

Banff Artist in Residence (BAiR) Intensive is an immersive period of studio practice and artistic exploration that combines the artistic freedom of BAiR programs with the supportive benefits of an organized thematic program. As well as having the space to create, research, and experiment, participants are part of a community of artists, curators, and creative researchers, each committed to their practice.

Throughout a period of four weeks, participants will benefit from studio visits, participant-driven critiques, artist presentations, and workshops.

In addition, participants may explore Visual Arts facilities regardless of their primary discipline, with a goal of opening up new possibilities and directions in the production of their work. Knowledgeable staff will be on hand to offer technical support and provide access to facilities in photography, sculptures, printmaking, papermaking, ceramics, fibre, and more.More information about The Banff Centre can be found here.

You're Not Here

I'll be exhibiting Because Someone Had to Believe at the Feminist Art Conference at OCADU in September. Artists were invited to submit work that examines community housing redevelopment, land disputes, immigration conflicts, and threats of violence specifically those within a feminist framework. The exhibition runs March 3 - 31 March at Daniels Spectrum, Artscape at 585 Dundas St. E. Opening reception is March 3, 7-10pm.

OAC National and International Residency Grant

The OAC National and International Residency program supports artists through periods of research, exploration, regeneration and rejuvenation and provides access to new cultural surroundings outside Ontario for one to three months. Grants cover travel, accommodation, living expenses, and personal insurance. This grant will afford me the opportunity to attend a month-long residency at the Banff Centre.

I'm pleased to join the Board of Directors at the NAC for 2014-2016. The NAC has always been supportive of my practice and I'm looking forward to working on the Programming Committee.
